Hello and welcome! I’m the author of Brigid of Kildare, The Chrysalis, and The Map Thief – three historical suspense novels spanning centuries and continents.
Once a New York City lawyer, I had long dreamed of some fantastical job unraveling the larger mysteries of time – before I tried my hand at writing. While drafting my first book The Chrysalis, I reached an unexpected moment of clarity. I realized that what truly intrigued me was the notion that an object – be it a piece of artwork or an artifact, real or imagined – can tell a story. And that such a story can answer a monumental historical mystery, as well as divulge something secret about the creator and possessors of the object. I became fascinated with answering those mysteries through fiction.
As I researched my third book, I learned about the lost Book of Kildare, an early illuminated manuscript from the time of Saint Brigid that was so beautiful it was described as 'made by angels.' I became captivated by the idea of the possible rediscovery of this lost masterpiece, for the Book of Kildare may have contained one of the very first images of the Virgin Mary. It seemed that the unearthing of this masterwork might reveal an astonishing secret history of the early church — and of Mary herself.
Thanks so much for visiting. I look forward to hearing from you, and I hope you enjoy my books!
Heather Terrell
